Tayden Dental Consulting Calgary

What is a Dental Practice Management Consultant?

When we are meeting people for the first time, this is a question we are often asked…sometimes even by friends or colleagues.  I had the realization that if health and dental professionals are asking the question, there may be a need to put down in writing what it is that we do at Tayden Consulting. The truth is, there is no simple answer to this question because there is a lot we can do for our clients.

Let’s start with the meaning of the word. In a nutshell, a consultant is an experienced professional with expertise and a wealth of knowledge in a particular area.  How does this apply to Tayden Consulting? Well, with over 50 years of experience in dentistry, you could say that our team is in it for the long haul.  It’s taken dedication, a desire to learn, and challenging ourselves to do better…and be better.

The journey has included a degree of trial and error. You will hear us say that we have done it the hard way and our experience allows us to show you the easier way.  In hiring a consultant, dental and health professional practices can access deeper levels of expertise than may be available to them otherwise.

Now that I have provided the definition of a consultant, I’ll translate that into what we do and how we help our clients and their teams.

The process…Our first step is to have a conversation with a potential client to identify their main concerns.  There are a wide range of reasons for that initial phone call. It could be anything from inefficiencies in the schedule, to a toxic team atmosphere, to help with guideline compliance and privacy impact assessments, or even building a new practice.

Once we have a clear understanding of the concerns, our next step is to spend time observing the team and the systems.  We analyze reports and numbers to determine the health of the practice.  From there, we provide an initial assessment with a customized plan for their office.  Regardless of the reason for asking for help, our plan is always tailored to help the client achieve their goals. The plan often centres around weekly office visits over a designated period of time.

During these office visits our team focuses on:

  • Observing the team’s interactions with their patients and each other.
  • Creating, implementing, and training on systems and protocols.
  • Facilitating team meetings and team training events.
  • Guiding and assisting with any obstacles that arise on a daily basis.
  • Helping to foster and maintain a positive work culture.
  • Tracking progress through office statistics.

A client’s needs may be more specific, such as completing a Privacy Impact Assessment or setting up a new office.  The customized plan varies in these project specific cases.

In conclusion…There are many reasons to work with a dental consultant and there are many areas of dentistry that we can help you with.  All it takes to get started is a phone call.

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
